Background

This is a critical decade for climate action and Strathfield, like the rest of Greater Sydney, can expect our changing climate to impact us in more ways than one. At Strathfield, a changing climate is an opportunity for us to create a better world for future generations and we’re ready to take the step forward.

Our draft Climate Mitigation & Adaptation Strategy 2025-2030 is our pathway to reducing emissions and adapting to our changing climate. It aims to enhance climate resilience in Strathfield and support NSW’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 to create a better future.

Council’s vision is to strive towards creating a thriving, sustainable, and connected community that is resilient to the impacts of climate change.

Our action plan framework has been developed with the following objectives:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Enhance sustainable community connectivity
  • Foster sustainable development
  • Build climate resilience
  • Engage and empower the community

Using these objectives, Council has identified 30 targeted adaptation and mitigation actions across six priority areas to build climate resilience by 2030 and beyond. The following priority areas are where Council and the community can make the most significant gains with our actions.

1. Community

2. Industry

3. Energy

4. Transport

5. Built Environment

6. Natural Environment
