Overview

Strathfield Council is committed to protecting its community, assets, services, and reputation through a proactive and structured approach to managing risk. The Enterprise Risk Management Policy and Framework outline how Council identifies, assesses, and responds to risks that could impact its operations, strategic goals, and community outcomes.

What Is Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)?

ERM is a coordinated approach to managing uncertainty. It helps Council make informed decisions, comply with laws, protect public resources, and continuously improve services. Risks can include anything from natural disasters and cyber threats to financial mismanagement or project delays.

The Enterprise Risk Management Policy outlines Council’s commitment to proactively managing risks across all aspects of its operations. Its key objectives include protecting people, assets, finances, and reputation, ensuring legislative compliance, embedding risk-aware decision-making, and fostering open discussions around risks and opportunities. This policy applies to all Councillors, staff, contractors, volunteers, and consultants involved in strategic, operational, and community-facing activities.

The Enterprise Risk Management Framework serves as a practical guide for implementing the ERM Policy, ensuring consistent and effective risk management. It aligns with the Australian Standards and defines clear roles and responsibilities across all levels of Council. The framework introduces a step process for managing risk, ranging from communication and context setting to monitoring and review. It provides tools to support risk assessment and treatment.
