The Strathfield Recreation and Wellness Strategy (known as the SRWS) is now on exhibition. The SRWS has been in development since November 2024 and will become Council’s guiding document to recreation planning for outdoor and indoor spaces. Council engaged planning consultancy firm Mecone to deliver the strategy, and the end result features a strong focus on community needs which were identified through a series of consultation events involving workshops, pop-up stalls, flyer distribution, an online survey, and interviews with prominent community groups.
The strategy identifies and advocates for the prioritisation of passive forms of recreation - balancing traditional structured forms of recreation and highlighting the importance of preserving green space for flexible, casual use by the community. Other prominent results of the strategy include a focus on improving the perception of safety for evening recreation, improving connections to Council’s open space network through way finding and active travel such as walking and riding, expanding the availability of indoor recreation, and identifying more innovative ways to deliver recreation in higher density settings with consideration given to our growing community, particularly in Homebush.
Tell us what you think! You may make a submission during the exhibition period of the SRWS which will last from 9 March 2026 to 6 April 2026. Following the closure of the exhibition period, all submissions will be reviewed and reported to an upcoming Council Meeting for consideration.
