Have Your Say: Strathfield Council Draft Traffic and Transport Strategy Now Underway
Strathfield Council is currently drafting a Traffic and Transport Strategy across the entire Strathfield Local Government Area. Road safety, traffic speeds and pedestrian crossings play a major role in people’s choice of where they walk or ride. This combined study is unique and seeks to address adverse traffic speeds and behaviours at critical locations while also creating a well‑connected, accessible active travel network for all.
The study covers all suburbs within the LGA being Strathfield, Strathfield South, Homebush, Homebush West (Flemington) and Greenacre, and will examine residential streets, school precincts, town centres, parks, and major pedestrian corridors. It forms part of Council’s broader commitment to creating safer, more liveable neighbourhoods through lower speeds, improved crossings, upgraded footpaths, and better connections to public transport.
What is the purpose of the Traffic and Transport Strategy?
This project aims to:
- Improve road user safety by addressing high‑risk traffic speeds and unsafe driver behaviour.
- Discourage “rat‑running” through local residential streets.
- Create safer, more convenient and more connected walking and riding routes.
- Improve access around schools, civic centres, town centres and railway stations.
- Support people of all ages and abilities including children, seniors and mobility‑impaired users to move comfortably and independently around the LGA.
- Align street improvements with emerging NSW guidelines such as the Movement and Place Framework and Council’s Cleaner Streets initiative.
The study will ultimately recommend traffic calming measures, upgraded pedestrian facilities, speed limit changes, and a prioritised program of improvements for implementation.
We Need Your Feedback – Tell Us What Needs Improvement
Council is now inviting the community to identify problem locations across the LGA, including:
- Streets where vehicles speed or behave unsafely
- Residential areas affected by through‑traffic (rat‑running)
- Footpaths that are missing, narrow, uneven or poorly connected
- Intersections and crossing points that are unsafe or difficult to use
- Barriers to access for prams, wheelchairs, older residents and mobility devices
- Gaps in the walking and riding network
Your local knowledge is essential to shape the study and ensure the final recommendations reflect real community needs.
